place DAYS 1 - 2 - Broome

Broome

Arrive in Broome and check in to your hotel overlooking the town’s famous Cable Beach. Get to know your fellow adventurers for the next 11 days at a welcome dinner.  
Day two is at leisure. Browse shops showcasing wares from the town’s thriving pearl industry or wander through Chinatown, a key part of Broome’s multicultural heritage. As the sun begins to set, make your way to Cable Beach, where long lines of camels create striking silhouettes against the vibrant sky.

The Broome Coast is one of the most significant paleontological sites in the world. See imprints of long-extinct dinosaurs at Gantheaume Point before continuing to the small town of Fitzroy Crossing.

Today, delve into the natural beauty and cultural importance of the Mimbi Caves. Discover stunning limestone formations and ancient rock art before listening to Dreamtime stories from your indigenous guide over a pot of billy tea. Later, see Aboriginal art at a community gallery.

Embrace the adventure as you traverse the Gibb River Road, a remote outback track stretching 660 kilometres through the Kimberley’s diverse terrain. Arrive at El Questro Wilderness Park, where dramatic gorges, tumbling waterfalls and thermal springs emerge from rugged outback surroundings. 
Spend the next two nights sleeping under canvas at Emma Gorge Resort. Here, safari-style en suite tents offer plenty of home comforts, while also immersing you in the sights and sounds of the great outdoors.

Heading towards the Pentecost River, take in sweeping views of the outback, with the Cockburn Range an impressive backdrop. Board a boat at Chamberlain Gorge and enjoy a relaxing cruise, your boat dwarfed by towering red cliffs as you glide quietly through a pristine landscape.

Emma Gorge – Kununurra

Discover how the tastebud-tickling rums and whiskeys of the Hoochery Distillery are made. Australia’s oldest continuously operating legal distillery prides itself on producing high quality spirits with a unique ‘Aussie’ character, using local ingredients and traditional methods. Learn about Kununurra’s history at the Durack Homestead Museum before admiring the sunset while cruising the Ord River.

There’s a choice of excursions available today. Opt to explore the striking landscape of the Bungle Bungles or wander through Mirima National Park. In between, explore The Waringarri Aboriginal Arts Centre on a guided tour.

A celebration of the region’s pastoral heritage and culture, the show is a fun-filled introduction to life in the outback. Dinner tonight is a memorable event, as you savour delicious dishes at Be My Guest dining under the stars.

With its spellbinding scenery and rich Aboriginal culture, Nitmiluk National Park is a serene sanctuary where nature’s artistry meets an indigenous legacy. As you cruise through Nitmiluk Gorge you might feel like you’ve stepped back in time, with soaring sandstone cliffs and ancient rock art creating a timeless beauty.  Arriving in Darwin later, a guided tour introduces you to the sights and history of this laidback tropical city.
