Highlights

Leave the resort and explore the beautiful surroundings or discover some of the main attractions.

Explore Colombo

There's plenty to explore in Colombo, the dynamic capital city of Sri Lanka that has been influenced by the exotic blend of communities that call the city home. Visit Gangaramaya Buddhist Temple, full of fascinating artefacts, lavish architecture and golden Buddha statues, or the remains of historic Colombo Fort, a walled city originally housing administrative and military buildings, cinnamon storehouses, mills and churches. East of the Fort the busy bazaar district of The Pettah is quite unlike anywhere else in Sri Lanka. Each street is devoted to a different trade and also features numerous vendors selling delicious fresh fruits and vegetables.

Head off the beaten track

Head off the beaten track

Head to the northern beaches of the West Coast to roam off the beaten track. The idyllic Kalpitiya Peninsula features deserted beaches and superb dolphin watching. Large numbers of Spinner Dolphins can be seen frolicking in the sea just off of the shores of Kalpitiya between December and April.

Famous mask carvings

Visit Ambalangoda - famous as the centre of the island's mask carvers. Two mask museums stand opposite one another at the northern end of town. The larger is the Ariyapala and Sons Mask Museum, which has fascinating displays explaining the meanings and traditions behind the masks. The shop above has a huge selection of masks and woodcarvings and a workshop with carvers working on their latest creations.
